Obtaining a Dependent Visa in the UAE

Obtaining a Dependent Visa in the UAE

Dependent visa is a form of residency visa enabling the spouse and children (below 18) of a UAE resident to reside with them. It’s also known as a “dependent visa” or “sponsor visa.”

Types of Dependent Visa in the UAE:

  1. One-year Dependent visa: Sponsors of stepchildren are eligible for a one-year UAE Resident visa, subject to yearly renewal.
  2. Two-year Dependent visa: A two-year Dependent visa is granted based on the sponsor’s two-year labor contract.

Documents from the Dependent:

  • Attested copy of the Marriage Certificate with Arabic legal translation
  • Colored copy of the Passport including the signature page
  • Passport-sized photograph (Note: For sponsoring a Child, the following documents are necessary)
  • Attested copy of the Birth Certificate of the child with Arabic legal translation
  • Attested copy of the Marriage Certificate with Arabic legal translation
  • Colored copy of the Passport including the signature page
  • Passport-sized photograph
  • Original Passport of the Dependent

Documents Needed from the Sponsor for Dependent Visa in the UAE:

  • Salary Certificate issued by the Free Zone (if applicable)
  • Colored copy of the Passport including the signature page
  • Original Emirates ID
  • Copy of a utility bill
  • Attested copy of the tenancy contract

Renewal of Dependent Visa in the UAE:

For the renewal of a Dependent visa in the UAE, individuals need to submit an application along with all necessary documents and fees to the appropriate immigration authorities. Seeking professional assistance and initiating the renewal process in advance is advised to prevent potential complications or delays.

Commencing the renewal procedure well in advance of the visa’s expiration date is recommended due to varying processing times and possible additional prerequisites or delays. Late renewal or neglecting to renew the visa may lead to penalties.

Cancellation of Dependent Visas in the UAE:

When the visa of the sponsoring Dependent member is canceled, the residence permits of the family members linked to them are also revoked. Dependents are given a 6-month grace period from the visa expiry or cancellation date to acquire a new residence permit. Failure by the sponsor to renew or cancel the dependents’ visas could result in fines.
